About
The Pacific Regional Ocean Partnership (PROP) aims to coordinate the management of ocean and coastal resources and collaborate on regional ocean data sharing.
Mission
Work towards regional coordination aims to assist the U.S. Pacific Islands Region Governors of American Samoa, the CNMI, Guam, and Hawai’i navigate coastal and ocean management priorities that require a coordinated regional response and increased collaboration to effectively address these issues.
Whether building on existing efforts or exploring new topics, active coordination can identify appropriate avenues to integrate regional needs and take advantage of existing national policy structures and funding. This approach will ensure that these partnerships reduce duplication of efforts and maximize opportunities for regional collaboration, ensuring consistency and alignment with existing efforts.
Objectives
The objectives of this effort are to:
- Promote regional sustainability of resources that support individual state requirements and regional priorities
- Facilitate communication and the exchange of information, including reports, discussions, initiatives and plans
- Identify opportunities for collaborative work in the ocean and coastal environment and address related environmental issues
- Enhance current state, multi-state, and federal governance and institutional mechanisms to manage ocean and coastal resources
- Foster coordination, cooperation, and collaboration on all aspects of ocean and coastal-related research and development, education, exploration and observation, and oceans management
- Seek additional resources and funding opportunities to further these objectives
